Questions people ask

AI product photo questions, the ones sellers ask first

AI product photo questions about cost, rights, marketplace rules and AI disclosure laws, answered plainly. Rules change, so where we describe one we say when we read it and link the source.

Is Torbilo free?

You can start free: every new account gets 25 free credits, enough for 5 product photos at 5 credits each, and no card is needed. In the app, Change background (your own product photo on transparent, white, light grey, any colour or a gradient) is free to use too, with a free account.

After that you buy credits when you want more. Credits never expire while your account is open, and they come back if a photo fails. Current prices are on the pricing page.

Can I use the photos commercially?

Yes. Torbilo's Terms say you may use the images made for you, including commercially, for example on marketplaces and social media. What you make in your own studio stays yours; photos made inside a brand belong to that brand and its Owner. You keep your rights in the product photos you upload.

The models are AI-made and none is a look-alike of a real person, so there are no model releases to collect. You are still responsible for selling products you have the right to sell. Read the full Terms before you start.

What are Etsy's rules on AI?

Etsy has published seller rules that cover how AI use is disclosed on listings for items made or altered with AI, and what listing photos must show. They are updated from time to time, so read Etsy's current Creativity Standards and Seller Policy before you list.

Torbilo shows your real product on an AI model: start from a clear photo of the item you actually sell. Etsy downloads come as 2000 × 2000 square files in Torbilo's Save window. Whether your listing needs a disclosure is for you to check against Etsy's current wording.

What are Amazon's rules for product photos?

Amazon sets image rules by category and marketplace in Seller Central. Its guidelines for clothing, as published at the date below, ask for a pure white main-image background (RGB 255, 255, 255), the product filling most of the frame, and, for most clothing, a main image on a model; childrenswear, accessories and see-through clothes are handled differently. Images of 1,000 pixels or more on a side switch on zoom. Check the image guidelines for clothing for your marketplace and category.

In Torbilo, "Make a white/grey version" turns a finished photo into a white-background one for 5 credits, and the Save window has Amazon files of 1600 × 2000 pixels for the US and India and 1540 × 2000 for the UK and EU.

Which marketplaces does Torbilo make photos for?

The Save window makes files in the size, shape and file limits of 25+ marketplaces and channels, including Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Walmart, Shopify, Flipkart, Myntra, AJIO, Nykaa Fashion, Meesho, SHEIN, Temu, TikTok Shop, Zalando, Instagram and Pinterest. You choose your sites once and every download follows them. See each marketplace's rules.

How many photos should I make for each product?

Marketplaces set their own limits and expectations, so check the site you sell on. In Torbilo, one shoot makes up to 6 photos of one product in different poses, from a single product photo. Clothing can also get a ghost mannequin set of up to 5 angles (5 credits each) and up to 8 close-up views. Each photo costs 5 credits, so your 25 free credits cover 5: a front, a back, a side and a close-up on one model is a sensible first set.

Does the EU AI Act affect my product photos?

It may. Article 50 of the EU AI Act sets transparency duties. Providers of AI systems that generate images must make the output machine-readable as AI-generated; people who use such a system for professional purposes must disclose a deepfake, meaning image content resembling real people, objects, places or events that would falsely appear authentic. The article applies from 2 August 2026 (Article 50, read 23 October 2026).

Whether a particular product photo counts as a deepfake, and whether you need to disclose, depends on your facts and where you sell. Torbilo adds an AI-generated tag to the metadata of downloaded files; we do not claim that any single step meets a law. Check the current rules and ask your own adviser. What is the New York law on AI models in ads?

New York amended General Business Law section 396-b so that an advertisement created for a commercial purpose must conspicuously disclose that a "synthetic performer" appears, when the advertiser knows it does. A synthetic performer is a digitally created asset, made with generative AI or a software algorithm, meant to give the impression of a human performer who is not recognisable as a real person. Civil penalties are $1,000 for a first violation and $5,000 after that. The governor signed the bill on 11 December 2025 and it took effect 180 days later, reported as 9 June 2026 (bill S8420-A, Hunton summary, read 23 October 2026).

An AI model in your product photo may be a synthetic performer, and whether your listing is an advertisement under the law is a question for you and your adviser. Check the current rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

Are the models real people?

No. Every studio model is created with AI for Torbilo, with the same face and body in every pose. Meet them on the models page, or browse by line: plus size, mature, modest, maternity, adaptive, men, kids.
